The Southport School

The Southport School is dedicated to creating an environment for LD and ADHD students in kindergarten through 8th grade that recognizes individual strengths, promotes independent thinking, develops self-esteem and self-advocacy, and supports a successful transition for continued academic achievement. In our coeducational elementary, middle, and summer school programs in Southport, CT, students can safely take risks and are championed by a faculty that is student-focused and uses research and evidence-based approaches. Through our teacher training, professional development, and community outreach programs, we inform families, educators, and other professionals on how to implement those practices in the lives of people with language-based learning differences and ADHD.

“Piper came into The Southport School feeling beaten down, and she came out ready to conquer the world. This school truly cares about students succeeding and takes a completely different approach to learning. Piper has been back in public school for three years now and she is excelling. She has the confidence to ask questions when she doesn’t understand, she gets A’s in classes, and a teacher has even asked her to be a homeroom helper to mentor other students in math.”

“Fifth grade is a truly magical place. It’s the perfect combination of nurture and challenge so kids can be successful. The teachers are AMAZING. Starting their journey early gave my children a solid foundation and a level of confidence that just kept building.”

“The teachers here encourage me. It’s okay to make mistakes and try again because everyone is backing me up.”
